At Elena’s Light, our interns play a huge role in helping us grow and serve our community. One of those interns is Gabby, a Public Affairs major at UCLA and part of our Health Team. She’s been working behind the scenes to support our programs, and we’re excited to share a little about her experience.
Gabby has been developing a website that tracks all the health-related initiatives Elena’s Light has worked on over the years. She’s also helped the Grants Team with an advisory board application and played a key role in organizing a recent donation drive for refugee families. Even though most of her work is remote, she’s seen the impact of these programs through the stories of families who have benefited.
For Gabby, this work is personal. She immigrated to the U.S. with her family 15 years ago and remembers how difficult it was to adjust to a new country. That experience made her passionate about helping others navigate the same challenges.
“I identified strongly with the mission to help refugee women adjust to life in the U.S. I still remember how hard it was for my family, and I want to help make it easier for others,” she said.
Looking ahead, Gabby is excited about upcoming health classes covering topics like nutrition and infant health. She hopes her work will help more families find resources and a sense of community through Elena’s Light.
Her advice to future interns? “It’s a really rewarding experience. Even if you’re on one team, you’ll get to learn from other areas too.”
We’re so grateful to have Gabby on our team and can’t wait to see what she does next!
