A Statement of Concern, Compassion, and Urgency
Dear Friends and Supporters,
On behalf of all of us at Elena’s Light, we write to express our deep frustration and heartbreak over the ongoing challenges facing Afghan communities across the United States. It is especially painful to witness situations where individuals—many of whom arrived through legal pathways such as humanitarian parole, P-1, and P-2—are being detained or targeted by immigration enforcement.
“These are not just policy failures—they are moral failures.”
This is not an isolated incident. Sadly, we all know this has happened before and, without action, will happen again. These events not only cause immense distress to the individuals and families directly involved—they also spread fear throughout the broader community, especially among those who fled violence and instability in search of safety and dignity.
At Elena’s Light, we are reminded every day of the courage it takes to rebuild your life in a new country. We also know the pain of waiting in limbo, being separated from loved ones, and feeling abandoned by the very systems meant to protect. These are not just policy failures—they are moral failures.
We call on our elected officials, community partners, and supporters to take urgent and compassionate action. We need clear, permanent pathways to legal status for Afghan newcomers. We need transparency and fairness in immigration enforcement. And above all, we need policies that recognize the humanity and contributions of those who came here seeking refuge.
We will not be silent. We stand in unwavering solidarity with every Afghan family navigating this uncertain and painful journey. You are not alone—and we will not stop fighting for your rights, dignity, and future.
With deep concern, but also with steadfast hope,
Elena’s Light
