Our World Refugee Day event was a vibrant celebration of unity and diversity, featuring compelling storytelling, energetic music, and dynamic dance performances that showcased cultures from around the globe. One attendee shared, “They started dancing, so I joined in. I don’t understand the language, but I understand the love for home. I was happy when I shared a song, and others joined in celebrating.”
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the presenters representing and supporting communities from Afghanistan, Kenya, Sudan, Ukraine, Syria, Puerto Rico, and beyond. This event was a unique opportunity to share in the joy and hopes of many cultures. The day was filled with proud and thoughtful moments as attendees expressed what they cherished about their cultures and emphasized the importance of preserving traditions. While we celebrated a range of perspectives, one message stood out above all: the need to create space for connection and come together as a community.
By getting to know each individual and hearing their stories, we foster greater empathy and understanding in the world. Every courageous story shared inspires hope and strengthens our collective resilience. Together, we illuminate a brighter future where compassion and inclusivity guide us.
We are deeply thankful for the support of our partners in making this event possible, including IRIS – Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, Havenly, Refugee Congress, New International Hope for Refugees and Immigrants, and our Ukrainian friends.
